Contacts Q & A

What are contacts?

Contact lenses are medical devices that go over your cornea. Most people wear contacts to correct vision problems such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism. However, you may also consider contacts to change your eye color and appearance.

Contacts also correct eye conditions like keratoconus, an eye disease that changes the shape of your cornea.

The Eye Q Optique team specializes in contacts and prescribes them to fit a wide array of vision needs and eye concerns.

What are the types of contacts?

When it comes to contacts, you have many options. The types of contacts include:

Soft contact lenses

Soft contact lenses are the most common type of contacts. They are soft, flexible, and permeable, making them a comfortable choice.

Rigid gas-permeable (RGP) lenses

RGP lenses are hard contacts. Though less flexible than soft contact lenses, RGP lenses provide clearer vision.

Scleral contact lenses

Scleral contact lenses are large, gas-permeable contacts used to correct vision problems caused by keratoconus and other corneal abnormalities.

Extended wear contacts

Extended wear contacts are soft or rigid lenses you wear overnight. You can keep these contacts in place for up to seven days in a row.

Extended-wear disposable

Extended-wear disposable contacts are lenses you wear for extended periods of time, from 1-6 days, and then throw away.

Specialty Hybrid Contact Lenses

Hybrid lenses combine two types of materials into one unique lens. The center is made of rigid material to give you clear and stable vision, while the surrounding soft skirt offers comfort throughout the day.

Am I a candidate for contacts?

The team at Eye Q Optique can help determine if you’re a candidate for contacts. They perform a comprehensive eye exam with a contact lens fitting to assess eye health and vision needs.  Additionally they will fit you with tria set of lenses when a sample is available.

Contact lenses offer many benefits over glasses. They adhere to your eyes, improving vision, they don’t get fogged up, and you can wear them while playing sports.

Once you start your contact lens prescription with Eye Q Optique, they offer quick shipping when you need replacements.
